Deep Work

Hey Guys!

My name is Dev and today I am going to talk about deep work.

Deep work:Deep work is any professional activity carried out in a distraction free state which allows an individual to use his/her cognitive abilities at maximum.

Just think for a second. Isn’t this a very useful term? Opposite to deep work is shallow work which is very common. As we all are indulged in doing shallow work almost every second of our life. For example, checking social media, checking the notifications, etc. In short the world which does not require much brain power comes under shallow work.

Deep work is carried out in distraction free space and it requires high amount of concentration. The work which you will produce by doing deep work will be difficult to replicate. Also deep work adds a value to our life. On the other hand shallow work is easy to replicate and can be done again and again.

Unfortunately the ability of performing deep work in today’s world is decreasing and its value is increasing. If you learn to perform deep work you will be able to achieve loads of success. Also this will nurture your brain as well as life. As skills and jobs are being lost to automation only a handful of people will be able to survive and achieve success.

People who are highly skilled workers, superstars and owners who have deep knowledge about the market and can invest in this rising technologies will surely will be able to thrive. To become a winner in this new economy filled with machines and automation you have to develop the following abilities:

1. The ability to quickly learn hard things

2. Ability to consistently produce at an elite level, in terms of speed and quality.

3. The ability to quickly learn new things.

In this age of machine and automation you can either learn to control this machines by learning about them or you can cultivate the habit of performing deep work.

Let me tell you how to perform deep work. First of all select the activity. It can be writing, studying, reading, creating art, etc. Now cut yourself from all types of distractions. And start doing the activity. Don’t stop until you achieve your target regarding that goal. Try to this every time when you plan to do an activity which will add a significant value in your life.

Bill Gates used to keep two think weeks in a year. He would cut himself off from the outside world and used to reflect on himself and create new ideas for his company. Just like him, the great scientists like Albert Einstein, Issac Newton, Archimedes, Nikola Tesla, etc. used to isolate themselves to perform their work. Due to their work in many fields we as a civilisation are evolving. Nikola Tesla once said “Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone ,that is when ideas are born.”

Thanks for reading!
